Well if we have made up our mind to learn to fly a plane, you will need to go to an aerodrome of some kind to do it. Check out a few places to see what they have on offer.
When choosing a where to learn to fly a plane, there are some initial choices, a large flying school, small training organization at a local airport or individual flying instructor. Go and visit one or two to decide the best way for you.
Ok, so you have decided to go and learn to fly. Firstly we need to realize there are some different types of flight training organizations.
An idea could be, to take a visit to your local aerodrome and where most likely you will find a smaller flight school with just one or two instructors. I would recommend you have a chat with them and see what packages they offer.
You will find these smaller fight training organisations will normally give you a much more one to one experience. You will most likely also find that smaller flying schools often have older planes, but don’t worry training aircraft have to be kept to the highest stands of maintenance and safety. You will probably be giving a choice of an aeroplane to learn to fly in. Basically, the smaller ones are one a cheaper hourly rate.
Ask if you could go on a trial flight, as this is the best to see if you are going to get along with them. You don’t want to be at three thousand up and find your instructor is grumpy and has halitosis.
A trial flight will give a chance to take over and learn the basics of the controls of the plane. These flights usually last about an hour, which can be added to your, brand new, pilots logbook. The time taken can be included in the total hours required for you to become a pilot
There is no reason why you can’t go and do this again at another airport or flying school before you go and make that decision of who to go with.
There are some also quite large flight training organization that will appear to be very professional, they are more likely to have much newer planes. And shinier brochures. The possible downsides are that you don’t stay with the same instructor for all your training and they may be a little more expensive.
The large flight schools are usually where your jumbo jet pilots start off their careers. Even they had to take their first flight at the controls somewhere.
When I start this I had the great idea that I would give a list of flight training places, but do some research on the subject I found there are just too many to list, especially as I don’t know where you live.
So, below I have added some resources to get you as near as I can to your goal. Learning to fly and ticking off that bucket list.
